Documentary Pitch

Taylor Hieber - Director
Treatment/Script for Documentary

The documentary I wish to make is all about guitars, and how they are built by Perry Germann. Electric guitars are an essential instrument to modern day music, and he hand builds each and every guitar before he sends them off to his customers. I want the meat of the documentary to focus on an interview of why he hand builds the guitar and does not use any modern CNC machinery. We will also capture some audio/video of him playing and interweave that into the video itself, most likely at the beginning and the end. Depending on time constraints of the video itself, a short tour of his workshop may be done as well, however this depends on how long the interview goes.

Some beginning questions to ask Perry are as follows: You are known as a luthier, can you describe what that means? What is the differences with building a guitar by hand versus using machinery? Advantages/Disadvantages? Do you find that there is a special sonic characteristic to your guitars due to the unique shape of the body, or was that just based around personal preference? Are your guitars specialized for any one genre?
